Greylands Ridge Newsletter spring september 2009

"Greetings from Greylands Ridge. Winter is over. Spring is early. Buds 2 weeks ahead."

This has been the
"Winter of our Discontent"

William Hill Ltd our viticulture and winemaking contractor since 2002 went into receivership in May with 2200 cases of our stock and our 2009 crop in Barrels. The receivers who shall be for the moment nameless but who tout themselves as the pre-eminent accounting firm for the wine industry in Central Otago then decided they would invoke some sort of until then unknown act to seize our stock. This has meant a very expensive legal battle for ourselves and the other 9 vineyards involved which seems to be now resolved in our favour. During this time we moved our stock to another customs controlled warehouse but are now in trouble with NZ Customs who said we were not allowed to do this to protect our property!! This is still a work in progress.

Notwithstanding all the above as they say in legal jargon Greylands Ridge has been prospering. Surprisingly Judy and I are still healthy but older, greyer and much wiser. Be very afraid of receivers who seem to behave like legalised Mafia cowboys!

New Wines Released

The good news is that we are releasing our 2009 Belle Rose named after our granddaughter Izobelle. (Less than 80 cases so be quick) and our ridgeback ALEX 2008 Pinot Noir named after our late lamented ridgeback cross Alex. (3% of sales go to RSPCA).

These will both be released at an Alexandra Basin Winegrowers "new release' party at Oliver's in Clyde on 25th October.

Award Winning Wine

The best news is that Greylands Ridge 2007 Pinot Noir got a GOLD medal at the New Zealand International Wine Show 2009 to add to its Bronze medal from the Bragato 2008 and its other Bronze Medal from Boutique Wines of Australia 2009.

ALEX also got a Bronze at NZIWS 2009 and a Bronze at Liquorland Top 100 2009. Don't forget the 2006 Greylands Ridge Pinot Noir which is still available and drinking better and better.
