Greylands Ridge Pinot Noir 2006, our first vintage, was launched at a “long Lunch” at Lauderdale Estate in Central Otago on Sunday 17th Feb 2008. 7 chefs prepared a lunch of local produce from our area for 108 guests. Bob Campbell Master of wine gave the keynote address and said the Pinot was a ‘Big wine with plenty of legs which bodes well for the future” It was a magical warm Central Otago day and it was hard to get them all on the bus at 5PM.
The wine was reviewed in the April tasting of www.tizwine.com It received 4 stars and a Top Tip award = Wines of exceptional quality regardless of price.
The review was;
Big
and black. This wine has good spicy and leather undertones that marry
well to the ripe berry fruit. A powerful wine that has good length and
is built to last. Enjoyed by the whole panel......
The 2007 vintage was bottled last week. The 2007 crop was a lot smaller than 2006 due to adverse weather conditions and the total bottling was only 250 cases. It progressed well in the casks and will be released in 2009.
The 2008 growing season here has been excellent and picking began on Monday 28th. It rained “cats and dogs” on Tuesday so picking was not finished until Thursday the first of May. Around 21 Tonnes of very good quality fruit resulted. This is now at the Winery. It has now Snowed so Winter is on us.
