Greylands Ridge Newsletter july 2008

Season:

Mid winters day has now passed. We have had 2 small snow falls only so far. All pruning is done and the vines are dormant now till budburst. A relatively mild winter.

Reviews:

We have had some further reviews of the 2006 vintage.

Peter Saunders has picked it for his next issue of Food and Wine behind Bars. We have entered for the Cuisine tasting and also for the Bragato tasting which is the wine industry tasting in August 2008.

Tasting Tour:

Judy and I did a two week tour of the North Island in June going to Wellington then Hawkes Bay for a wine marketing seminar at the Eastern Institute of Technology attended by many experts from around the world. Very informative.

We then had a few days in New Plymouth including a tasting at the NICE hotel and a tasting at FRESHA Delicatessan both of which were successful. We also arranged a Taranaki Distributor RADICH Wines. We then went to Hamilton and arranged with Hamilton Wines and Spirits to be our local distributor in that area.

Outlets:

We are beginning to get more outlets, restaurants and wine shops around the country and will notify you of all of these in next letter. Still have plenty of cases left. Website has the advantage of being open 24 hours. The 2007 has been sampled on a couple of occasions and is progressing well. Not as Dark as the 2006 but really good fresh flavours. It will be released next year.

Tasting House:

We have decided to convert our double garage which already has plumbing and electricity into a tasting house and are working on the plans now. We will have our wine and a number of others from the local area and produce from the local area plus local Art and Exhibitions of some of our own Art Collections featuring well known present and past NZ Artists’s works. You are most welcome to visit. We will keep you informed of timetable. It will be called Caterina’s tasting house after our resident Rabbiter Cat.
